The Mediation Act received Presidential assent on 15 September, 2023. It had gone through several stages before taking the final shape. The core objectives of the Act are as follows:

1. Promote and facilitate mediation for resolution of disputes, commercial or otherwise.
2. Enforce mediated settlement agreements as judgment or decree of a civil court.
3. Provide for a body for registration of mediators- Mediation Council of India.
4. Encourage community mediation to establish peace, harmony and tranquility amongst the residents or families of any area or locality.
5. Make online mediation as acceptable and cost effective process.

मध्यस्थता अधिनियम को 15 सितंबर, 2023 को राष्ट्रपति की सहमति प्राप्त हुई। अंतिम रूप लेने से पहले इसे कई चरणों से गुजरना पड़ा। अधिनियम के मुख्य उद्देश्य इस प्रकार हैं:

1. वाणिज्यिक या अन्य विवादों के समाधान के लिए मध्यस्थता को बढ़ावा देना और सुविधा प्रदान करना।
2. मध्यस्थता से होने वाले समझौतों को सिविल न्यायालय के निर्णय या डिक्री के रूप में लागू करना।
3. मध्यस्थों के पंजीकरण के लिए एक निकाय की स्थापना जिसे ‘भारतीय मध्यस्थता परिषद’ के नाम से जाना जायेगा। 
4. सामाजिक शांति और सद्भाव को बढ़ावा देने के लिए सामुदायिक मध्यस्थता को प्रोत्साहित करना।
5. ऑनलाइन मध्यस्थता को स्वीकार्य एवं लागत प्रभावी प्रक्रिया बनाना।
